What are you putting on the cotton pads? Is it possible, separately, that you are having a reaction to your laundry detergent via the reusable pads?
Does the shop/brand have their own particular care tips? Cleaning instructions would vary depending on the materials they used for the pads.
Are you washing them regularly? Agreed it may be your detergent
This is the only reason I haven’t switched to the cotton pads that washable. Facial skin is way too sensitive to mess around.
Now I can’t tell which kind of pad you are talking about. Haha for sure thought you were talking about menstrual pads but I think I’m incorrect! Didn’t know reusable facial cotton pads existed
Just my cleanser! Like I'm not even using it for makeup removal - just a micellar water cleanser in the morning , and then another cotton pad in the evening with my cream cleanser. but I swear, I keep breaking out so I'm thinking it's either my technique...but maybe the detergent? Who knows.

I’ve never heard of applying cleanser with cotton rounds. I just apply mine to my hands and then massage onto my face for about a minute then rinse. Why not just apply directly in your hands or onto your face? Maybe the micellar water one wouldn’t be the best for that, but a cream cleanser can definitely be done that way.
And to clarify, I mean FACIAL cotton cleansing pads...definitely not menstrual pads
What do you use to clean it with? It might be a little too harsh for your skin. Try something more gentle like those detergents/soaps targeted for babies.
Where do you store these cotton pads? Make sure to keep them in an airtight container where they won't be touched by dust or any particles.
Don't use any harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softener when cleaning them. I choose to just hand wash mine with a gentle cleanser so it doesn't mess with what products I apply to my face.
How long have you been using your reusable cotton pads? Although it is reusable, you can't use them forever. You have to replace it from time to time.
I have the same problem. I do want to make a change and I want to start with my skincare waste. However, I have sensitive skin and reusable cotton pads are not that friendly for people with similar skin type.
No matter how hard I try to live consciously, the lifestyle just doesn't fit me and it's really frustrating. I breakout with reusable cotton pads as well.
How do you clean it exactly? Do you clean it every after use with warm soapy water? If you find that this doesn't work. Try soaking it in hot soapy water overnight. This is my own system of cleaning them.
There must be something wrong with how you clean them. But cottons are biodegradable, right?
