I spent the majority of my legal career as a legal assistant/paralegal. My workload has always been task oriented so I went all this time without being responsible for making sure deadlines are met and when to complete them. My current position has made me recognize the gap in my skills. I really need a roadmap or play book to train me. My area is insurance defense in Texas. Too close to retirement age to go back to school it would cost too much. Thinking abt changing to legal asst

I have been a legal assistant/paralegal (not secretary) for 35 yrs.

I would say take advantage of your firm's task deadline software or if they don't have one, put your reminders on your electronic calendar. I put reminders for deadlines when the requests, etc. come in, not for the date it's due (although I include the due date in the subject line) but for the date I plan to first address it (requesting responsive info from the client, etc.) and then update the reminder to the date I plan to follow up. I hope this helps.

I would recommend the Lawyers Diary (Red book) and reading the the. Texas Civil procedure concerning time to serve summons and complaints and discovery, and the appropriate local rules for motions and time for trials.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!

In Jan of this year I was hired on as a new mortgage loan originator. We renegotiated my salary in April to $55K. I recently learned that banks here in my area are hiring brand new, low experience LO’s for $70K. The market is slow but I’ve been very consistent in what I’m bringing in and closing. My supervisor has stated we will be doing my review and salary discussion to be effective 1/1/23. I was going to ask for $75K but I’ve been told I should ask for $80K-$85K. Thoughts? Advice?

I know I will get hated by saying this. Do you think gay pride events are portraying a bad image about our community to public? (Drugs, sexual, inappropriate clothes, and sometimes like strip clubs- some parts). I know it is right to present us but I just feel it is not the right way to show who we are. I wish the pride where everybody can connect in a more friendly way (outdoor game- team work, dance, drink something not too sexual.) there are some good parts of pride tho. Any opinions?

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms.
