Hi fellow fishies!
Can someone please explain what is “SUPPLEMENTARY allowance” in my payslip??? It is the highest in my entire payslip, more than basic salary. Basic is lets say ₹7 lac annually and supplementary bonus is ₹7 lac 40 thousand.
Can someone please explain why this exists in my paylslip, is it good or bad from tax perspective and shall I ask my HR to decrease it???
Please help asap.

I’m doing it now, using all the time at once (which I know isn’t your question) but maybe you can save as much as your partner’s salary to try to offset 2 months of your pay... or something to the effect that if you have your bills covered and a little extra. And I know with a little one there can be a lot of unexpected costs so it might be easier said than done.
Small saving tactics could be opting for generic vs name brand, try a Costco run and stock up on all the essentials while you have your full salary. Two months will fly by before you know it!
Yeah, on point. I took a short mat leave because we could not afford it. We are not a stable 2 income household which gets weary. I’m fortunate to have the support from my other half, as he knows I’m struggling, but I’m afraid it leaves me exposed and at risk for losing my job (unfounded fear but still feel it). We have enough in savings to do it. Just fearful.
I took it all at once, and my agency helped me offset the dent by letting me weave in PTO. I had about 10 days, so I spread them out through the PFL month, logging one PTO day on my timesheet every couple of days. This allowed me to also get something coming in from my job, and most importantly - uninterrupted health insurance coverage.
I used part of mine with my 12-weeks mat leave between Feb - May, and then in Dec I used up the rest and was out until after my daughters one year bday in Feb. We are a 50/50 income household, but I’m so thankful I took the time. You’ll never get to use it again.
Do you guys have some savings to get you through while you take the time off?
Thank you!
Me! Took 3 months for the birth of my child last year. Took the remainder of nypfl earlier this year. Saved up money so I can pay my household responsibilities. While I'm missing out on my normal salary, it's worth it to me as I'm getting "paid" a few hundred bucks to not work my normal job. If you feel burned and unfocused and want your normal salary, take a few vacation days or personal day to relax.
Thank you!
I used the PFL in combo with PTO last year for 6 weeks where I worked 3 days and took two days so that I could deal with my kids zoom schedules and I also had a 5 month old - now all at home during the start of the pandemic. I was so burnt and losing it. It helped to offset it with some PTO so that I wasn’t totally cutting my salary, also the couple days a week was good for me to feel like I could do what I needed to do and not shut off completely (although that would have been nice too). Good luck. It’s definitely a lot in the first year with a baby no matter what, forget in this kind of situation...
Very helpful, thank you!
