Definitely try for a senior role. If you really feel like it’s too big a risk you can explain that you’re open to coming in as an experienced associate as long as the compensation makes sense. Perhaps they can work with you in that case; compensation ranges can be quite flexible for new hires. But my advice is if you’re intelligent and can take some risk that you should try to come in at the senior level. The expectations are not that high. It’s way way different than coming in at the manager level
Review is very difficult for anyone honestly. I never understood how somebody off the street who had next to no knowledge about a taxpayer could be expected to perform a competent review of that taxpayer’s tax returns. It’s a little different if it’s YOUR client, but if you’re part of one of those specialty groups…idk man. lol
You can ask for whatever you want. Why not try for a senior spot? I would not take a pay cut unless absolutely necessary.
If you are a tax senior you should apply for tax senior roles. The difference between rsm and your current firm is more than likely volume and the technology.
Definitely ask for more. Keep asking until they tell you it’s their highest and best. Then decide if you want it or not.
No, go for senior.
Hell to the no to the staff position. I did that when I was at EY it was between senior or manager. It was a mistake to choose senior. If you have a good experience with business and individual returns.. you will do just fine at RSM.
