I worked at B4 in audit for almost 2 years and jumped to a Senior Accountant job that didn’t work out because I had no guidance. I then jumped to a role that isn’t really accounting, I’m the only CPA in my position here. I enjoy it but hate being client facing and feel I’m overqualified and there’s no room for growth. I’m almost here a year and want to do some soul searching because I hated public. I want something 40 hours a week, period. Any suggestions? Serious answers only please…

Accounting dept in a Fortune 500. Should be pretty chill and enough structure to give you guidance.

Gotcha so basically just google them and apply on the site? Wish there was some aggregator lol

Probably should go back to a traditional accounting or FP&A role

I’m in finance and my close is pretty manageable. We’ve been down a person for like 6 months and I still don’t work much more than 50 hours during it. It’s about a week of scrubbing financials, a day of forecasts, some external reporting requirements/write-ups - the rest of the month is focused on improving our operations/finances and helping our teams hit their goals. It’s like 40 in off peak weeks, I feel pretty lucky…

I’m in the same situation but I had just under a year of big 4 exp and then got an accountant role and same problem - no guidance. Now Im at financial analyst job that is same as u- no growth but also low pay. But I’ve been trying to find a senior accountant job and no luck. Don’t wanna go back to a job without guidance. Looking for suggestions too.

Yeah I’m at my current job for a little over a year now but I am keenly aware of how the last 2 were pretty quick jumps. Didn’t expect the 2nd place to be such a shit show. I did get an offer from TAAG last year and interview invites for other senior accountant roles. Thing is I get to the 2nd round interview and then I’m told by the recruiter that they went with someone with more experience or with a referral.

There are not many 40 hour a week jobs. Not for profits typically have much better quality of life jobs. However that is also reflected in the pay.

And it’s a not-for-profit so it’s super chill

I work in a technical accounting role and it’s pretty chill. Don’t deal with any close related stuff so it’s more based on transactions

How about government jobs?

Can someone explain how PTO works in house? I have only ever worked at a firm, starting my first in house position end of this month. I’m used to just blocking off time on my calendar if I have an appointment (like the rare occasion I have a dental appointment, well child checkup, etc) and then going. Do I really need to take PTO for these things? I’ll be working remotely 3-4 days a week for reference and I’m talking about days when I’m remote.
