Hello Sharks, Hope all are doing good,
I am a associate java developer having knowledge and experience on Java, Spring mvc, Spring boot, Hibernate, MySQL. Recently I have joined another IT company. The surprising thing is they are providing training on Scala Programming language .I don't have any knowledge about Scala Programming, Slick and Postgresql. Is Scala developer having good future and demand. Can I better to try for other company to stay in java technology only. EY Infosys Cognizant

I made manager in just under 4 years and to be honest, early promos are tough even if well deserved. My group was understaffed at the manager level and had I not gotten promoted I would have still had the expectation to be fully in an acting manager role. In the long term, there is a possibility the extra year is made up at the manager or senior manager level too. So don’t let the title alone make your decision for you.
With the client facing aspect, there is also a difference in a high performing senior acting manager and an actual manager. Client is going to see you as no different from a third year manager even if you are a senior early promote and that’s quite a lot of pressure on having to know the technical and being able to lead client discussions and meetings, especially if you are new to the firm and client.
For me, early promotion within the firm also means there are fewer experienced seniors I have the option to work with. Its tough to transition into a manager role when you are working with a new senior who’s still transitioning from their staff role and learning to delegate and review.
Moving at a manager level to a new firm is still early enough to build relationships for making partner and there may be a difference moving from big 4 to BDO. So maybe it will work for you. I think you just need to be prepared to work hard. It was tough for me and I was an early promo within my firm. It would be inherently more difficult in a new firm where you are learning the new internal admin processes and new clients.
Are you in audit or tax? If tax are you in a more specialized group. A specialized group may be worth the jump.
Do you plan to stay in professional services, or want to move to industry soon? If trying to position for a move to industry may be worth it. If want to stay at one of these firms long term, I don’t see the point. Better off staying put and investing in relationships/personal development in my opinion. Just my thoughts, but I’m probably naive
I was wondering about this same thing. I know that my equivalent practice at EY is desperate for managers. Wondering if I could jump at 4 years for the title.
@PWC2 do you have an appropriate Cert? That would likely be the biggest challenge if you don't.
If another firm offered early promotion, then I’d wonder if their ‘manager’ was really a super senior
