I don't know exactly where you start at 3 years of experience; most with ~2 come in at Associate and the consultant laterals seem to have more like 5+. Maybe you do one year as an associate? I had to put my SAT score coming out of MBA, but I think GMAT was what they actually looked at.
Thanks bcg1. Do they actually care about my gpa at this point? Only have a 3.4....
I do think they will still look at GPA. But it's part of the overall package; if you have a partner referral they should be vouching for you. Once you get an interview it's all about how you perform there.
They also look at sat
Hm gotcha, thanks. I don't even remember my sat score - I think 19something out of 2400.
Hey OP, any chance you could share some more on your interview as experienced hire and how you prepped?
You would probably start over as a first year at Bain, unless you had an MBA or PHD (assuming you are in the USA)
Likely start as a BA without graduate work
Wow so I'd be 3 years behind right off the bat?
Life will be a lot easier if you try not to compare yourself to others-especially if you want to come here. There is always someone ahead. Is it a good opportunity for what you hope to accomplish? If so, do it. If not, don't.
Agree with MC1 - is it worth it to you to spend 2-3 years as an associate consultant to get to where you want to get? If not, maybe go for something else.
Additionally - if you crush it, early promotes can come quickly
Thanks Bain and mck for the perspective - I suppose initially it was a bit of a shock to hear, but it makes sense, and imo doesn't take away the longer term value being in MBB would provide.
Second B1- Someone in my office came in with ~2 years of experience, started as an Associate, and was promoted in a little more than a year.
Yeah and it's possible they fast track you or something - don't worry about it too much until you got the offer and then weigh the pros and cons.
