The way you feel about “Per” is the way I feel about people who have to add high importance red exclamation points to every freaking email they send, and “Please Read” in the subject line.
The sky is not falling.
Omg I HATE "thank you in advance"!!!!!!!! That's the worst
Passive aggressive for the win.
I use it when I confirm a verbal conversation. What should I use instead?
As we previously discussed,
Recalling our previous conversation,
To refresh your memory,
Just wanted to touch on what we talked about
Idk.. I just believe there are better ways to reference a previous communication than using "Per my/our last email/discussion." Starting with the word "per" in general automatically feels a bit impersonal and sarcastic, and that's why it's often perceived as passive-aggressive. It's like you're implying the other person isn't paying attention to the situation or details of whatever you're talking about.
While some people probably don't mean it that way, like you, it's clearly become a bit of a universal meme at this point that starting an email/message like that is a bit snippy. Wouldn't you agree?
