I’m a corporate attorney on the board of directors of a non-profit that provides healthcare and social services to at risk populations. No need to take a massive pay cut to do good. It’s possible to have the best of both worlds.
I got lucky. A partner at my firm knew the organization needed an attorney in my specialty for their board and they connected me with them and it worked out.
Nope, I don’t make a BigLaw salary and I’m not sure why you think that (unless you think that getting anything less than a BigLaw salary equals being in poverty.) I could have made far more money in BigLaw, but I wanted to litigate constitutional law cases and have a better work-life balance. I got to do both.

Is it possible to make this pivot from a very specialized transactional practice? Also, do you have time to do anything on the side to supplement the income? (I’m in HCOL city)
