I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
Any layoff expected in bny ?

I’d be pissed that I got outta bed on Monday just to get canned. But I’d soon be relieved that you didn’t ruin my weekend.
A&M1 - Agreed. Same reason I think layoffs before Christmas are better than after, folks spend during holidays. If they already know they are without a job they will reel it in.
Probably Monday.
I've only seen layoffs on Wednesdays
There should be no set date. If the decision was made then close the deal. It is better for everyone involved.
I became so dehydrated (I attempted to get out of bed, fell, and couldn't get up) that I needed to be hospitalized for a week. The recently hired (and inexperienced) office administrator called me in the hospital and asked how to cut a check on the computer (nobody else could instruct her?). I calmly went through the steps. I wasn't 100%, but came back to the office on Monday, and was let go. I vote for Friday. A year later, I was out with my infant daughter, and saw one of the partners. Our conversation was friendly, but when my daughter started to cry, I said "Don't be upset because this guy fired your Daddy." The partner laughed, but not sure if it was uncomfortable for him.
Sounds like Andersen Tax lol
Assuming it's not an urgent firing that must happen immediately (such as a case of fighting, intoxication, etc.) I always choose Friday afternoons.
While it may not make a big difference for the person being let go; I have found that doing these things Fridays allows the rest of the staff to process what has happened over the weekend so they can come to work Monday ready to deal with the new reality.
If you fire someone during the work week, there's going to be chatter for a few days as the remaining staff deals with the situation. So, I prefer Friday's to allow the staff to come to grips with it mentally and emotionally on their own (weekend) time rather than work time.
Both option have positive and negative sight, But better to do it Friday afternoon, It's true that the weekend of the employee will be not very good but at least he will have time to think about the action try to absorbed it and fine solution for his problem. And for the company its better since the work on Monday will start without any bad environment.
Should you fire someone on Friday or Monday?
Mid-Week – The middle of the week (Tuesday-Thursday) is good because an employee can utilize the rest of the business week to immediately get their job search back on track. Friday – Friday is the least conspicuous day to fire someone.
Definitely on Monday morning. I got let go on the Friday before Memorial Day and I would have rather enjoyed my weekend and found out on Monday and got right to looking for a new job after being rested and relaxed.
