I’d be pissed that I got outta bed on Monday just to get canned. But I’d soon be relieved that you didn’t ruin my weekend.
A&M1 - Agreed. Same reason I think layoffs before Christmas are better than after, folks spend during holidays. If they already know they are without a job they will reel it in.
Vibes wise, Monday for sure. But there’s always the possibility they will make a financial decision over the weekend they would not otherwise make if they knew they’d be unemployed
I’m with this. I would want to know as soon as a decision were made
Monday morning.. Mondays are generally sluggish work wise and you’ve just given me a reason not to work
Honestly no real good time, but if it was between Monday or Friday I rather have it Friday, but as soon as possible. Don't keep me in the office all day.
As someone who does payroll, I prefer that people are let go on the last 2 days of the payroll period. It makes it easier to finalize that payroll vs when people are let go only a couple days into a pay period. Also, it makes their last check bigger for them, which is a mental bandaid. When they get their final check and it is only a day or two plus possibly very little PTO pay out it can be a low blow after being told they no longer have a job. Hope this helps.
Monday morning, I have the rest of the day to get things in order / reach out to ask questions if needed. If it has to be Friday, then also the morning. No reason to work most of the day to be let go
I was let go two weeks ago on a Friday morning. All things considered, Monday morning probably would have been better. Getting fired on a Friday made for a depressing weekend.
Me too it was before Memorial Day
I would day 1st thing Thursday morning ( with full pay gifted for Thursday & Friday)
That’s a good gesture
Here’s the argument for Friday…
For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman"
As someone that was laid off with many others on a Friday. Monday morning would be the better option.
Extra day of pay if it’s Monday.
Just pay out the week . We need to normalize this . It softens the blow and we need to realize a lot of people are already struggling mentally and financially .
Was let go due to downsizing. It happened on a Thursday.
Don't say this isn't personal. It's very personal. People's lives are being impacted.
And dont say, "its not that your work isnt excellent, its more of a cultural fit issue."
Excuse me -WTH does that even MEAN??
Monday is the better choice because on a Friday, they can't do anything about it except have a crappy weekend, but on a Monday, they have the whole week to pick up the pieces and make a new plan. Word of advice though - don't put the Monday meeting on the calendar the week before - it'll be suspicious and still ruin their weekend.
Yes and give them the rest of the week off and the month for that matter…
Friday morning. Pay the entire day and a head start on my weekend.
YOU CAN FIRE ME ANYTIME AS LONG AS THERE'S A LEGAL OR VALID REASON
Wendesday afternoon is the correct answer.
Monday.
Honestly,I think if an employer is going to let someone go it is much better to do it once the decision is made. Just be kind and pay them through the week. That kind of energy converts into a negative energy and puts not only the ones who are aware the ball is to drop on edge, but also, the entire team around them. Additionally, it places the company at a higher risk, especially because you do not know what the future holds, i.e. say that specific employee gets injured on the job before you got around to laying them off. ....Just something to chew on.....
