No better place in the world to be a creative in advertising than NYC.
No better place in the world to be a creative in other industries than LA.

Either or, generally. That said, it seems both cities have been taking some beatings lately, so not sure which is the better move right this moment.
The best way to move up and get paid is to be really good and work hard and sell a lot of work. Doesn’t matter where you do that.

There are more agencies in NYC, but you should get the job before you move.
just left LA for NYC, tons more opportunity in NYC - simply way more agencies to choose from. but I would argue that’s an excellent reason to take a job in LA: they’re more desperate for talent. since they have a smaller talent pool they’re always looking for people to move. you can always move back after a few years.
I think that NYC is better for a young creative because of the high density of agencies, but also you’ll meet other juniors who care about the same thing as you and they will help form a sense of community.
Truth be told, it’s not just about job hopping/getting paid more, but about forming relationships with people who trust you and will help you land your next job. Relationships go a long way in this industry
NYC, generally.
But will also depend on your sub-specialty/sector expertise. Pharma is heavier in the tri-state area, entertainment more in LA, etc.
If you describe yourself as an ambitious creative I assume your want the grind and late nights to build your portfolio so NYC is the place for sure. More jobs, more opportunities and intense work culture and sets you up for future roles but you’re sacrificing work life balance. Though honestly that seems the culture everywhere in the US, it’s just even more intense in NY.
NYC probably (I'm in LA) but honestly it could be a grass is greener situation. Love this city regardless of my job.
either is a great option, they probably need more advertising talent in LA, they’re more shops in NY but also more people competing to get into them IMO. As for job security, not in the ad industry at all.
