I gotta stop having sex dreams about partners.
Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?
PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express

Lol “value add” and “consulting” do not belong in the same sentence
Probably a big 4 or some other advisory practice at an accounting firm. Not sure if you could come in as a senior, but they’re not hiring for anything below senior as of now. Even senior positions are relatively rare at the moment
Perhaps not but at the same time plenty of people have built their careers in advisory. Ultimately many people choose to leave to go into technical accounting roles though. It really just depends what your interests arw
Sounds like you’re on your way to becoming a consultant!
Well, I am along the line of you. I have not been able to secure a offer for anything other than a experienced associate.
SA I tried. I felt like I wanted to learn more.

OP, just curious. Wasn't there an opportunity for you to move up to accounting Manger or controller? Or do you want out of corporate accounting? I'm looking to get in to corporate accounting. Just curious.
Yea there are opportunities in corporate accounting. But promotions aren’t scheduled or dependent on tenure with the company like they are in most public accounting firms. Someone needs to vacate a position in order for you compete for that position and only a select few will be able to rise through the ranks organically. If you play office politics well (which I do not) a Senior Accountant may be able to become a manager, a director, and then eventually a controller (depending on the company’s hierarchy) in about 20-25 years. But the monthly/quarterly close cycles and the work life balance can be brutal.
