Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient

They’ve been saying this for 25 years. It always comes back, you will get a job, and everything will work out. We need good people. Hang in there!
It’s not about positivity vs negativity, OP. It’s about the reality of choosing a career with a future.
Honestly, try to leave. Yes advertising is fun. Yes if can be rewarding. Yes it’s relatively well compensated. But if you’re just starting your career you need to look at the facts. There are less agencies, with less employees every year. It’s an industry experiencing structural decline.
I’m not saying everyone is going to get fired. There will always be an ad industry, but it’s going to be smaller and less well compensated in the future. It’s like what happened to graphic designers over the last 20 years.
If you stay, make the choice with eyes wide open and prepare properly.
My advice to all recent joiners is consider an alternative.
I’ve been freelance for a year after getting laid off. Not having PTO or health insurance combined with a high cost of living city means I have to work 50+ hour weeks - including weekends - to make ends meet. Still trying for full time offers, but at this point it seems getting married for benefits and cohabitation is easier and faster than another full time secure role in advertising. When it gets to that point, where budgets and timelines are so screwy, in-house at even a pharma agency is starting to look good just for stability and getting my life back. I feel for you!
Yeah if I want to take a vacation, I have to consider on top of all travel, activity and hotel costs I will also “pay” $1,000 for peace of mind. A vacation for a week costs me $1k of lost work. I can’t make rent if I don’t work. Haven’t vacationed in over a year because I can’t save, but spent $12k out of pocket on health insurance. Single and 30. It’s a living but also a nightmare! I really need a full time job soon.
Get out now. Seriously go do anything else. Especially if you’re early in your career. Skills as a young account exec easily translate to many other industries. Might not be as cool as as advertising, but if you’re not a creative then why would you give yourself that torture?
Hey! 👋 it looks like you’re AAE level, just starting out, right? If gotten to that point , imagine the rest of us who’ve been at it for a decade of two. Advertising isn’t disappearing but it is certainly evolving. There must be a bunch of things you know how to do, you don’t have to work at an ad agency either!Keep applying but widen your net and adjust your expectations. There is full-time work out there for sure and especially if you’re starting your career your compensation is not an issue, I’m sure you’d be an asset to any team!
