Innate correlation to X and $, I'm having a hard time determining where to aim next. I stumbled over McKinseys Health Institute and was immediately drawn to this facet and never thought to look for something like this (non profit backed by big muscle). Ideas on other like initiatives? Ideas on what else I should consider doing? I want fulfilling work that matters to me and society as a whole. I've considered non‐profit but the salary wasn't there (yes I acknowledge what I'm saying here).
Simply open to ideas for getting out of my own way. Thanks!
It sounds like you have hit that stage of life where it is time to reassess what you've done and make some decisions about moving forward. Now is a great time to give some thought to your life and your career and what you want it to be. Take the blinders off. Is it time to switch industries? Is it time to start living a different type of lifestyle? Is the time to go solo? What are your values? Imagine it is 20 years from now and you're looking back over the past 20 years, what did you do that made you feel fulfilled and useful? What made you happy and where did you contribute? What about family life? Is it time to dig more into your personal well-being?
From a career point of view, make an assessment of your skills. What do you bring to the table in terms of experience not just tasks that you are able to perform. Who are you as a leader? Where are your talents best used to serve? What stage of a company would be served best by the experience you have accumulated so far? What about a start-up that is scaling? Perhaps a nonprofit that needs your particular type of expertise that is doing work in the world that aligns with your values?
BTW, I did a complete career turnaround 17 years ago and I've never looked back. You can do it too. Good Luck!!
Really like this thoughtful post.
Getting professional support can be useful but I’m also curious, when is the last time you took a vacation? Not a vacation with an agenda but time away that is unstructured.
This can be helpful because work life is dominated by focused attention, but synthesis and insights come from diffuse (big picture, soft) attention.
I changed industries six years ago and haven’t looked back. Critical to the shift was believing what lit me up was possible - best of luck to you.
This is an excellent question. I don't disconnect without 'a reason' well, and no I haven't taken time for me in a while. It's challenging for me to do where my life is at the moment, but you're right in the value of taking soft action. Thanks for the suggestion.
OP - nothing helpful I’m afraid, but following as I’m in similar position
Did you decide on what you want to do?
