Think twice. If you're client side with a brand that's got a decent rep, maybe tough it out. Agencies still have the slick veneer on the outside, but 8 out of 10 are struggling to either stay relevant or with their own margins. And a lot of the work you will do agency side is churn. (You haven't lived until you're on round 7 of creative edits on banner ads). Don't get me wrong, it can still be a lot of fun and so many great people, but the industry is in major flux. When Droga sells out, take it as a major sign of where things are headed.
I feel that. I’m struggling; I can’t see the point in staying somewhere that I’m not growing at all. There’s literally zero opportunity to move up here, my boss would have to quit for it to happen, and I’m miserable trying to navigate the bullshit. On the other hand - what are the 2/10 agencies who aren’t struggling? Anyone still doing well I should look at?
Hey - I’m client side. Spent my last 5 years trying to go agency side. Just scored an awesome job at a huge global in-house agency. Is the work as exciting as agency side?... nah. But I’m doing stuff i enjoy and get out most days at a decent hour. I used to hate hearing this but.. based off what people tell me, agency life ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Hell, i spent the last 6 months kissing ass to Droga people and know what? They just got acquired and a bunch of people may be out of jobs in the coming months. Gimme the in-house agency and more time with my family every. Damn. Day.
can i ask why ?
Well it certainly sounds like you are “agency ready"
Why?
See above!
Have you tried reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn? Sometimes that can be a good place to start. Hoping you find something soon 😊
Atlanta is a tough market agency wise, so be patient and network a lot.
Don't do it
I think agencies are afraid to hire client side. Unless they know how the agencies works - framework, processes.
Or else, it's a pain for everyone.
This is true. Been told i have a very solid junior book and yet, no agency will give me the time of day. That’s alright. I’ll just be over here enjoying my work-life balance producing “boring” work
I’d recommend looking at startups where you’ll have a bigger role or platforms like Google, Facebook, Twitter. You can get variety there without jumping from one sinking ship to another.
Seeing you’re in Atlanta and being a hiring manager here, I will say the salary expectations from brand side applicants are usually a non-starter. Making the switch may come with a big pay cut. Another hangup could be lack of agency experience because it can be a huge learning curve. My suggestion would be to find an agency doing similar work where you could really bring value with your insider perspective. What is your vertical?
we are growing, feel free to apply! :D

Tell us what you’re looking for. Someone on here might be able to make a match
Check out Moxie. I think it fits your description.
What level? And, confirm you are Atl based?
Yes! Mid-levelish - I’m not sure exactly how it translates to agency side
op’s tryin to go into strategy...
👆🏻that
I’d recommend looking into media companies or startup clients over agencies. That would give you the chance to come up with and voice ideas you have that could innovate product, marketing and sales strategies rather than just picking one which is what you have to do 9/10 times at a big agency or bran.
You’re what will be more respected as a “creative” in the future. Currently, you’re better off at what is mentioned above. Hybrid agencies - moxie, etc. publisher, client side, PR, social... the big legacy agencies can’t evolve fast enough and the silo’d society of “creatives” won’t embrace the ones coming in from a different path
Don't.
Find another brand to work with.
Wow. Why would you do that?!
Yes. Switch with me. Seriously: depends what role you want, but your client empathy might be an asset for new business, not to mention providing a different perspective for briefs.
