I wouldn’t say you’d need to start at the bottom, but depending on what your consulting experience is, I wouldn’t say you’d be slotted into mgmt level in supply chain.
I would definitely take some online classes, get certified , and if you have anyone you know in the field ask if you can shadow them . There’s about 18 crisis going on at one time and you’ll need to be able to solve them all , quick. you need to be on point and know your shit or you’ll get steamrolled over by someone who does, I love it!
Don’t do it lol, supply chain is extremely stressful and salaries are baaad
I'd say everyone above Operations Management is clueless about what we do and really are just over-paid faces for the company. My company appointed a person who had less than a year in operations experience in intermodal logistics to lead the intermodal department, when there were 12 others who would've been way more competent in that position. Glad I'm out in a couple weels.
Can you take a consulting supply chain role and gain some exposure?
If unsure then you can take some Supply Chain Certification classes and gain some certs in order to look more marketable.
