I'd like to pursue my career to business side and commercial leadership roles after couple more years and I'm thinking of getting an MBA to achieve this. Any tips for small steps for me to achieve my long term goal of transitioning to business and leadership side? Thank you

Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

Doing an in person EMBA right now.
I’ve found that having the in person time with my cohort has been very beneficial for me. Both from a networking perspective but also from an academic standpoint.
MBAs especially are about network building, Not sure how you would replicate those in person interactions or after class happy hours via an online platform.
It’s also much easier to text a classmate for help on homework or an upcoming test when you actually know them vs some stranger in your online class
This.
I thoroughly enjoyed my EMBA experience and would encourage you to consider the reasons why you’re pursuing the education.
Personally, I chose an EMBA because my classmates were already established professionals and (many of them) executives. The program was also at highly coveted institution with a strong alumni network. Upon graduation I have had no hesitation in taking ownership of my career and have experienced unparalleled growth personally and professionally.
If you’re considering an EMBA because it seems like a shortcut to an MBA and has ‘executive’ then I’m not sure you’ll realize the value. Also keep in mind that not all MBAs are created equally - EMBA rankings are pretty much irrelevant. If you have an opportunity at a high ranked B school in any of their programs I suggest taking advantage of it.
I did an evening in person program while working. I had already done some online / remote classes and hated them, so I chose in person bc I’m just not disciplined enough to fully engage unless I have to look the prof in the eye.
I’m doing an evening program that gives me flexibility to take courses at night, during the day with full-time, and/or online courses. I can say that I much enjoy the in-person courses over online, as group work and the general learning experience is so much better. I also drive over an hour twice a week for class, and I do think it’s worth it
EMBA all the way. Simply the best experience of my professional life.
When did you pursue your EMBA? I am a few (3ish) years out from making partner. I have an opportunity to get my EMBA with minimal personal cost (outside of the time requirements). Unclear if there would be any ROI at this point given where I am professionally, but wanted to understand your thought process and how you have seen the value of this degree.
SOM has a great program. Plus New Haven is home to the nation's best pizza places and the place that invented the hamburger. Boola Boola
