I’m ex-B4 (3 yrs accounting advisory) now at a fintech company looking to start doing tax prep work on the side. What’s a good starting point for this for someone who is a CPA but doesn’t have a tax background? H&R Block?

B4 have contract roles (PwC is called talent exchange). You could set your hours to a reasonable number and they’ll take you for seasonal tax help

like

The Intuit role is more customer service and tech support for TurboTax. Its not actual tax preparation from what I understand.

Intuit has part time tax roles that they are currently recruiting for and they have a program you can complete

like

You’ll have a hard time with only minimal experience moonlighting H&R Block. If it’s something you really want to do, your best bet is to backtrack your career a bit and get a junior staff position at a reputable CPA firm. Get some real experience under your belt and get review notes on returns you prepare before you try to branch out on your own.

You could also work part time for a sole practitioner who is looking to slow down but not yet retire.

Is it a red flag if, after almost two years in a full quota carrying and selling role I want to take a lower role at another company in order to break into a field (tech sales) I want to work in? It’s better pay - closer to home and at a company with a better reputation?

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

I’m not naive or fresh out of law school, but I’m at a point where I’m saying to myself “Why can’t I have it all?” I’ve been offered a job for more pay and less hours and I keep thinking to myself, what’s the catch? I know people will say no promotion potential or that’s not how it works…but what if it could? What if you make yourself valuable by still setting your boundaries? Why would we resent someone who has that opportunity?

Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

First question is it advantageous to have the top of the organization 50/50 partners own the r/e company as an s-corp? That 50/50 company then owns 70% of holding company they own all the real estate as a partnership that the original partners are 35/35 and the investors own the remainder. All the real estate deals are then owned by this holding company.
