Big nope. You will be tied to the reputation of that shopping area. Think of 20-30year old shopping areas and what percentage of them you find pleasant. Shopping centers in my area are being torn down a in some cases being replaced with light industrial warehouses.
Obvious concern would be the noise. Why don’t you ask the neighbors what else if anything bothers them so you can have a full picture of everything and then decide?
Where is the trash? I lived in an apt next to a shopping center and if the wind was going in the wrong direction I’d get the Chinese restaurant’s dumpster smell coming through.
I also don’t think you should buy that property. I was in a similar situation but so glad I didn’t. My friend that ended up moving to that house complains about the trucks going in and out and unloading in the middle of the night. She isn’t getting good sleep…
Thanks for the insight! After reading everyone’s reviews I will not move forward, I’m really eager to find a place and settle down already, finding something in this market has been tough esp with my budget :(
Looks like you’ve made your decision but also something to note for the future: best thing is to buy from an investment perspective and not necessarily what you’re willing to put up with. e.g. you may be okay with power lines in your backyard but it’s not great when you eventually sell
