Im looking for some advice on when to make my next career move. I’m in a Director position at a non profit, coming up on 3 years. Before this I have 7 years experience as a Director at another non profit. I’m leaning toward moving into the for profit space and I have either a senior position or into the VP space. I’m 40 years old. My original goal was to stay where I am for 5 years then attempt to make a jump.

Does anyone feel that the Oil and Gas industry is the most discriminatory industry of all? They won’t even look at resume without O&G experience! It does not make sense to me as I would rather teach someone the specifics of an industry if they were a good fit. And for an industry that has so many obstacles from Government, Environmental Organizations and so on, why they are adding more bad publicity to themselves is not a great approach.

What does the long-term career progression look like, both salary and title-wise, for someone looking to get into FP&A-type roles? Can you at some point land roles that involve financial/corporate strategy? One test away from getting the CPA and looking to get roles outside of standard corporate accounting.

IAPP is such trash. Why does everyone recommend getting the CIPP certs when they mean nothing??

I am working on a NFOA for a design case. The Examiner identified a primary references and four secondary references. The Examiner also pointed out five differences between the primary reference and the claimed design. For the reply, I found nine additional differences between the claimed design and the primary reference, two of which are not present in any of the cited references. There’s been some posts on the best planning tools (e.g. planners, calendars, etc.), but my question is how do ppl make sure they use them? I get them and am excited about the possibility of them helping for about a week then I just stop using it. Even if I find it helpful I just never stay consistent with it. Does this happen to others?
