Do you want to work in technology or finance? Epic will pigeonhole you in the tech world. If that’s your interest, go for it. Career progression will follow the CIO path. Please note that an analysts will not be a leader. You might be in a cave with limited exposure to hospital leaders who can save you...I mean notice you. PA Manager is higher level role. If you shine, you can grow quickly along the CFO track. As the manager of a customer facing department, you will be in the spotlight a lot and at the table with executives. PA notoriously has homegrown leaders and don’t come across as that dynamic or, bluntly, educated. I actually see that as a benefit if you are smart and ambitious. If I had those two options, I’d take PA in a heartbeat. I’m an executive in a hospital, so that’s my angle. Good luck!
I would probably also ask why those are your only 2 options given how disparate they are but Consultant 1 is right on the money, I couldn’t agree more...
I concur with consultant 1. What is importing you must be determined. PA will give you career growth but with it come hospital politics which is brutal. I know of one friend who asked a question that was a legitimate question but appeared to challenge the position of the PA and he was fired.
If you want to get off the road and want steady but mind numbing work then do EPIC. You will always have a great skill and if in the future you want to consult again then you have that skill.
Hey, I have an opportunity for you in industry if you fit the role. Access world, amazing health system, fantastic manager, fully remote. Drop me a line. I was Cadence IS for four years.
