You might make 20% more of money in the short term but time is much more valuable once you have kids
Totally agree! The time with a newborn is priceless IMO. I wish I had more than six weeks when ours was born.
I took two 16 weeks paternity leave at EY. Definitely worth the stay just for that benefit if you can
I legit only stayed because of paternity leave. I’m in week 14 of the 16. It’s amazing!!!! I highly suggest you take that benefit. Stick it out because it is worth it 110%.
No dream opportunity will be better than connecting with your little one!!
I would stay and just leave EY after the leave. I think at EY you have to have 1 year with the company before you can use the benefit and I think other firms/companies would have a similar policy.

Yep, I’ve seen the same at other companies. Some of them still have reduced leave, but it’s like 5 weeks compared to 16+. Just feels silly to give that up unless it’s a dream job that’s willing to work with me on the leave a bit.
Agree that the leave is amazing and I think that there will be plenty of jobs around next spring! On your other points, I just accepted a role in industry that gives 12 weeks for fathers (up to 24 for mothers but more realistically probably 20) so industry jobs with good leave exist! This was important to me in my search as I’m planning on having more children. I also realized that with the pay bump I’m getting I could take an almost 5 month unpaid leave and still net more than I’m making with EY so that could also be something to think about if you do want to look now and can work out with your prospective employer to take unpaid time off when the baby is born.
Same position as you OP! S2 going to be S3 here, feeling like S2 is prime time to move to industry but might be worth another busy season even though won’t really add to my experience for industry jobs
A lot of other companies have generous parental leave and better insurance. Seems like a weird reason to stick around.

I haven’t found an industry job that gives a new hire 4+ months.
