It varies incredibly from firm to firm and even within firms.
in my firm imagine a large pie. The pie is the budget and all the equities divvy up the pie based on their originations. You bring in the most money you get the biggest slice of the pie . The pie adds up to 100 percent. Maybe i’m getting five percent and you’re getting 2 percent of the budget. If the firm hits its budget you have your “target” comp. If the firm exceeds the budget, I get five percent of the overage, you get two, so forth and so on.
The highest equity partners make anywhere from 6-9 million, the lowest make between 425-525 depending on how well we beat budget. Plus bonuses on top of that for exceptional years.
At my v25 firm the spread is relatively narrow among equity partners with the lowest earner at $1mm and the highest at $4mm
