I try to limit my exposure to news that I know is just going to aggravate me. These days that includes news about the economy and business in general. Obviously, I can't ignore everything, but I realize that listening to every little bit of bad economic news was making me crazy. The funny thing is that things at work have been going pretty well, but the threat of layoffs is always out there. I'm hoping it doesn't happen, but worrying about it won't prevent it anyway.
That’s smart! So much of my anxiety definitely comes from news consumption, so limiting it is a good idea
I just try to compartmentalize as much as possible. What can I control, what can't I control? I try to prioritize the things I can control (my efforts, my savings, how I treat people) and ignore the things I can't (politics, the state of the world, the economy). This helps tremendously with my anxiety.
I really gotta get better at compartmentalizing because you’re absolutely right! I can’t control so much of what’s happening, so no need to let it control me.
