‘Stars aligning’ and ‘within the year’ doing a lot of heavy lifting here…
And unfortunately OP your team doesn’t control that either.
There's many a slip between 30% raise right now to "on track to be promoted by year end".
Personally, I would probably stay, unless I was really sure I would like the other place at least 80-85% as much. If you like your team, and the work, I wouldn't be willing to be 30% less happy at my job. A raise of 30% is a pretty nice chunk, but the difference between a mostly-ramen diet or healthy food is not the same as saving more in your 401k versus not. Good teams are fairly rare.
Probably. I don't think the new company is big enough to go after our old clients though, and I'm not senior enough that I'd be bringing clients with me.
Yea I was in that situation this past year. Interviewed at the next level, was brought on a level down 'to learn the practice', and guess what? Did not get promoted because (insert a reason) despite stellar reviews. If you don't have the promotion paper work in hand then it does ot exist
I’d probably do it (assuming 30% is over 30k in this scenario.) Unless you’re just totally satisfied in your current role and don’t feel like the money would make a difference to you, I’d rather have the extra money for another year (or more if the promo doesn’t work out or the raise isn’t huge). Sometimes it’s good to leave while you still like the job. Just my opinion though, listen to your gut
Nod. I would just make sure to fully vet the company. "Boutique" could just as easily mean 'we want someone from a Big 4, you are our guy, this might be a bit sketchy/we might want to make recommendations to a client and if it is wrong...'. I would be curious who would be on his new team. I mean I am sure they are probably legit but it isn't the same as jumping between E&Y and Deloitte.
