Is 401K included in the net worth?
Of course!
With the income most of us have and can grow to in consulting you can change your situation pretty quickly. Went from slightly negative NW to just crossing the $1M mark in ~8 yrs
Yes includes spouse, their earnings have offset grad school and started being accretive this year, have one toddler which has increased our spending by about 50% overall but we have otherwise kept living within the same means as when spouse was in school and we were getting by on entry level salary
25 paid off my student loans last year and up to $30k NW. It'll feel good to max 401k/IRA/HSA this year
24 and @ $85k net worth
24 @ 30k.
Finished paying my school loans during school, and don't have any other debt. Probably buying a car soon so that will change
24 and $58k. Was fortunate enough to not have any student loans when I graduated and have just been saving as much as I can.
I don't envy those of you with student loans. Our higher education system is SO broken...
25 - 75k all in with 401k, savings, ESPP, etc. I know people with much much higher my age
30 with $150k in student loans and a $350k mortgage. It’s not so bad.

Anyone with a mid thirties negative net worth?
34 and -$50k!
Yes
Are people including their assets in their networth? Or just summing cash in the bank, stocks/bonds, and 401k?
Assets including equity in a business or real estate are generally included
This game changes so much for people with mortgages in expensive areas.
I graduated from business school in 2008 (worst time ever) when I was 28 years old and at the time my net worth was approx -$50K. It took me exactly 10 years to cross the $1M mark. It’s all about upside potential, what you are worth now is almost irrelevant
