I think we’re more at risk of being offshored than replaced by AI. If the economy ever gets better I think there will also be less likelihood of total jobs being eliminated. These people have billions invested of course they want returns and are making huge promises. I don’t think AI will ever be perfect or better than humans and I think there are going to be risks. They’ve already had lawsuits.
Offshoring, though. Quality usually isn’t as good but virtually any job can be offshored.
Offshoring will be an early phase for support building foundational tools but the truth is, is that GenAI (autonomous engineering) replaces those roles first. When an dev agent is benchmarked, to often it is against some ideal of the perfection of a calculator. If you look at the tech debt, bugs and sec concerns vs. COST and SPEED benefits benchmarked against an average off shore resource, then we are <6 months from agents being vastly cheaper/faster/more reliable than off shore dev.
“AI won’t replace you, someone who knows how to use AI will” is pretty much applicable to most corporate roles, and definitely to management consulting
Makes sense from where we’re at now in terms of revenue and growth but when AI doubles productivity, it will had a downstream impact on revenues and profits which if you’re a smart firm will be reinvested back into the business. This will cause more growth and lead to more roles, less roles than what could’ve been if you didn’t have AI but more than the 2/10.
Any product leadership role, senior sales roles, strategy roles (no, AI will not develop and implement strategies), transformation leadership jobs
Pro
Regulatory compliance roles, possibly. In highly regulates industries there may be too much judgment and risk to handover too much to AI, or foreign outsourcing providers. This could change if courts and/or regulators start to accept the excuse "sorry, the AI was wrong/hallucinating" when the next big lawsuit eventually happens.
Biz dev; Strat and ops —- consulting skillsets will need to solidify on the financial side (too many are light) and will become more sales
You mean those are safest since they need human touch/relationship management? Least safe ones should be those that require analytics/big data I guess since AI can get really good at those
