Rising Star
That sounds really odd for a large firm. But maybe the partner gets to do things their way. You can always accept, then talk to people, then retract acceptance if it all sounds terrible.
Seems odd to gatekeep until offer acceptance. I’ve had firms open up access to more people after the offer was made and I was considering it, but not contingent on accepting.
This seems like a strange process. Without knowing more about the circumstances, I would 100% not accept an offer without meeting with at least a couple more partners/counsel. At least in my experience, EPs hiring their own people that don't integrate with the rest of the practice group is a potential 🚩 for culture problems.
So I don’t screw myself out of a bonus.
Seems like a really weird process to me and have concerns. Obviously if there’s a signed offer letter that means something but overall I find it so odd.
A1 - I agree. Anytime I had a major law firm pitch a confidential search it was always more involved than what OP is describing with just one person. I just can’t imagine any other reason for it? 🤷🏻♂️
