Let me add a little something here from my personal experience:
1. If you are at 0-2 YOE:
Prepare well for CAT because you'll have a lesser work pressure and go for IIM ABC, MDI, etc.
2. If you are between 3-7 YOE:
Give GMAT, and apply for the college that is as per your profile and your career goals. You might want to switch out from your undergrad career path to a different career post MBA
3. If you're beyond say 10 YOE:
An executive MBA is the best bet as it'll give you the additional advantage you're looking for in a career graph that is starting to look like a plateau.
Hope this helps! 😊👍🏼

Hi @Capgemeni 1,
I've not yet done my MBA, I've taken the GMAT and now plan to apply to MBA colleges in 2022. Won't be going for MBA in US, because it's too expensive and too less ROI compared to that.
Context: total 5 YoE
1.5 Soft Engg
3.5 Business Analyst (functional domain, solution design, Product feature ideation, documentation etc.)
(Made internal switch by giving interviews in IJP)
Intend to move into Product Management roles which is a natural progression for my career path, the higher earning capabilities and newer opportunities are what I'm looking for.
Completely depends on what one is looking for.
I did MBA from a tier1 college after 2.5 YoE to switch career paths. And it worked out beautifully.
An MBA will allow you to change your nature of work and will provide you an accelerated career path. My friends in tech are currently working as team leads after 5/6 years of experience. Post MBA you will start as a manager in the corporate. (Leaving out consulting because that's a different discussion)
If you are doing an MBA thinking it'll allow you to earn a lot more as soon as you graduate, then the probability of disappointment increases astronomically. Tech is where the money's at.
What's the salary situation at other consulting firms apart from (MBB) say Deloitte..Starting pay and after 3/4 years?
I am also stuck in a similar dilemma about Tech and MBA. Currently in tech role with good pay but don't see myself in coding for long.
B. Com & MBA.
Esp for consulting: The degree is totally worth it. If you are a hustler and in consulting, sky is the limit in terms if CTC.
My yearly pay is around 33lpa ( 26 base rest is bonus), yoe (all post MBA) - touching towards 2.5 years
Most definitely, YES!
Maybe you can skip MBA if you are from MBB but if you are talking about smaller consulting firms(in terms of ops) like Big4, ZS, or backend centre of MBB, don't expect much in terms of real consulting exposure, pay or fast growth.
Even Big 4 hires some top MBA grads for therevfew exclusive teams so bias is there and it's very hard to overcome, due to sheer size of these firms, you are another bachelor vying up for MBA role (but again exception do exist)
It’s a gate pass for entering corporate slavery.. perks included this time!
I've done MBA just to let future in laws know that I'm a post graduate.😛😂
In the India of Engineers, little did I think before completing my BE in Electronics. In the penultimate year, I realised that there are very few jobs for electronics engineers in india. Back when I graduated, vlsi, iot was not something common. People still exchanged files through Bluetooth, TCS offered 3.2Lac for an Engineering fresher.( It still does after almost a decade). I had absolutely no experience in coding. I could program micro processors and micro controllers very well. Kind of a champ at that, but that is not what the jobs were for. They had jobs for java, .net and C#. All of these were alien to me. I did not want to code. So I took to a full time PGPM from IBS Mumbai. Got hired at TCS with a starting package of 5.3Lac. My friends who had joined TCS 2 years back still had less salary than what I was drawing. Moreover I did not have to code. Infact I had to instruct people on what is the logic and they would code for me. Over the period of next 5 years without any switch I was consistently earning more than them and the gap had increased. (People will debate, you paid fees for your MBA; well I recovered the whole damn thing in a little more than 2 years) after just one switch I made more than what BE grads were making with 2 switches after 8 years.

To all reading this comment, I am in indian IT now with 4 yoe after engineering , my only aim is to settle abroad (might sound funny for many but it's my long term dream since childhood) , From just a middle class background with avg scores throughout.... But that fire is becoming intense every year as I age... Can MBA help me in this regard? Is MBA from abroad more valid than indian MBA (some say IIM are the best globally)? What domain can I choose (some suggested International business) ? Pls enlighten me it means a lot to me🙏🙏 TIA
Pursue MBA abroad. Graduating from IIMs doesn't guarantee a role abroad. Some people get posted in MEA or SEA but most stay in India and have to hustle further to move out of the country.
How much one can earn after doing having of 2 years and having 3 years prior experience.
So After completing MBA you are 5 years experience.
So what will be starting package after MBA?
Because in current market people without MBA Degree, having totally 5 years work experience also getting 18-20 lac package.
So is it worth to do MBA as per current market ?
From my experience, MBA especially from a tier 2/3 college or below is only good to get a job and not a career. You will be sharing your space with graduates with equal years of experience despite you dedicating 2 extra years on education.
+1
Considering a lot of mba grads will be going through the thread, I wanted some clarification with respect how the placement opportunities are for a guy with 2 yoe vs 3 yoe, in top 10-15 mba colleges in India.
PS. Btech undergrad working in tier 2 consulting firm, 1.5yoe, CAT prep hasn't been solid this year, but worried if it comes to giving CAT again next year, I will go into mba will 3 yrs experience, have heard opportunities start limiting for that level of experience in IIM placements
Ohh great, also is it so that people with 3yoe might be offered a higher profile, or do some companies just give a slightly higher package
.
If you want to change the technical domain to management kind of role MBA will be a good choice. The degree opens up the opportunity across different sectors apart from IT as per the specialization(finance, hr and others) in MBA. But any low profile b-schools will not add much value compare to tech jobs growth. But exceptions are there.
Apart from career growth you need to think about extra study expense and no income during full MBA degree. Thanks.
Just curious but are you an MBA grad?
I did my master's in Cyber Forensics and Information Security from University of Madras. That doesn't uplift my career till now. Hoping that it will do that soon.

Guys, may be basic question. But when one say tier 1 college then which are these colleges?
I m having 12+ yoe and working as a QA, so certainly looking for new option which will help to grow - career perspective as well as from money side.
Very much interested in mgmt role/activity so can you guys please help with if MBA is good option?
After 12 YoE, you have to be very clear as to why you want to do MBA? Just saying .. having more career options is not enough.. figure out first as to where you want to go and what RoI could look like. Hint - very difficult to switch industry after 12 yrs..for placements you will be mostly on your own. So go out ..talk to more people who have done exec MBAs and find out what post MBA options are and what the roi is. My experience..Roi takes longer for more experienced folks..but there is a good case for MBA as it pushes your ceiling and changes your perspective i.e if done from a top tier college
Leetcode and go to faang!
I'm not sure what should I do?
feel free to share some insights
Age - 25
Education - M.Sc Physics
YOE - 3.5
Current position - Customer Service Analyst
CTC - 4.5L
I'm thinking to do distance MBA but I'm not sure whether it will help me in my career, cost is something I can afford till 1.5-2l in fees. Is there anyone here who was in this position or someone could share some advice.
Feeling lost in deciding what to do
Opportunity cost of not doing an MBA is missing 2 years of adult fun 😅
Okay I’ll bite. How so?
Any thoughts about distance MBA?
Not worth it
Baki sb chodo yeh btao acha college lene k liye like tier 1, how much we need in GMAT and how to prepare?

SAP fico is very much in demand. Try to give interviews at Big4. You will get 10lpa plus
I am a MBA and it's worth every penny if you do it from a good college.
You get to learn about real life situations, entrepreneurship skills , leadership skills , basic finance during MBA.
I have learnt more during my 2 years if MBA than 16 yrs of 12+ engineering education.
