Parisian here that moved to the US a few years ago. I was paid around 42k as a SC at EY in Paris. Definitely enough for a single guy but for a whole family idk. Paris is much cheaper than any big us cities (some people here really like to talk about things they don’t know) but not half as cheap.
Also idk how it works for foreigners (do you have access to free healthcare and education for your kids?) if so it might be worth it.
I’ll say it again lots of things are much cheaper, like most extra curricular activities barely cost anything for example.
French is my first language actually. Glad that you're making much more here in the US
Hi KPMG,
A few insight from the market :
- the bare minimum is around €65-70k base for seasoned senior management consultants in Paris, recruiters give that range currently. It matches a 18% inflation hike calculated on 1980 basis. That to say that there no compensation hike in that range. Only inflation correction. The question is what are your key differentiating strengths for the position. Be ready to play on it and to ask for more. A €80-90k base is hard to get but seem attainable.
- recruitment budgets are visibly being limited from an applicant perspective, though it might not apply everywhere.
- the cost of living in Brittany will soon enough reflect the real estate market evolution with a cumulative hike superior to 20% since 2019. (Outside Rennes in this case).
- inflation hike on train fares is already +30/+50€ with a 2-3 week notice. Fuel is following the inflationist trend too. State-backed 18 cents fuel purchasing power incentive will soon cease.
- the general rule for compensation inflation maintenance over 3 years is usually to get a +15% hike per year with a 5% YOY inflation rate. Expect hard negotiations, because that what’s gonna happen. Business failures are rising again and the business climate will be impacted by the recent elections outcome (our midterms’ equivalent).
- I strongly advise you to join the compensation bowl to get more insights and france consulting bowl to get more local insights too even if do not doubt that frenchies are out there in this bowl too.
- equally, we are both senior, I strongly advise you to revamp your resume and maybe to be more aggressive with what you show in the perspective of negotiations. I mean really nailing it hard.
- the rumor is that EY activities will split. Careful with your target organization positioning and if your are negotiating stocks within your total compensation. Anyway, this was expected.
- prior to covid era, salaries were 80% of Paris’ ones in region. A Paris-based contract is a wise thing.
BR
Thanks a lot!

You kidding?
That's what I was thinking 😭
Don’t do it, it’s chump change
If you must move, I would definitely push for 80k€ or more. 50k is super low.
This website can help in understanding what the COL might be between your current city and Paris.

Don’t do it…
Lived in Paris 7 years - Rent for a nice 2bed will be prob around 1,5-2k€ leaving you with just above 1k€ for other expenses and probably 0 savings
Paris is cheaper than most large US cities but it’s not that cheap…
3 YOE. Have a bachelor from the US
50k euros is like $52k. Paris COL is high. It's like...if you're making 120k, do you want to get a 55% paycut to move to LA, which is hcol?
Depends where they currently are in the US…
Hi, I can confirm that 50k€ for a senior consultant is quite low-end. As of right now, 50kE would be upper-end of Junior consultant entry compensation. Would expect 55-60k€ for a Senior consultant with 3-4 YoE. Inflation is currently bringing all salaries up, especially in Consulting where new generations do not get as attracted to the job as before.
Cost of Living will be much lower in Brittany compared to Paris, specifically housing costs. 2bedroom appartement in Paris would be 1.8 k€ a month in Paris, half of that in a significant city in Brittany (like Rennes). You could support your entire family with that, but it would not leave much room for savings or extras.
50 € is definitely not enough for Paris. I don’t even think you’ll be able to live in the outskirts of Paris with the salary. You need to ask for like 90-100 €.
True. It is not even suffficient for a commutation pass monthly subscription, but at least with 50€ you can have a date with a few beers 😂
Why do you have to move from the US to Paris?
Trying to get closer to family 🙁
