If you have like 5 roommates for your two bedroom apt.. Totally doable!
C1 you can't get your own place for $2200/month. A decent studio runs minimum 3000-4000$. You aren't considering 401k, health insurance costs, utilities, gym fees...it's definitely doable to live on 97k but it is a very different lifestyle than it would be in many other cities and can be detrimental to your ability to save for the future.
No. You'll die.
I think you'll need to sell blood plasma just to get by. Just don't do that on days you are presenting.
I don't get such questions. There are people who live on minimum wages in New York and SF. So yes, you can live with that much salary in SF.
Dude. 97k is $5200 per month after taxes. You can even pay $2200 per month on rent and have $3000 for food, going out, travel etc.... Why do people think it's so hard to live in SF
Almost Noone lives IN SF on minimum wage. It's gentrified as fuck and the working poor have been pushed outside the city
I live in a 2BR luxury residence in SoMa and paying 2500. All amenities included. Do your own research instead of asking a bunch of cocoons here
@D1 "gentrified as fuck" is being added to my daily vocab immediately
You can live on it but you will live easier pretty much anywhere else
^your definition of "decent" is interesting. My friends live in a 1-bedroom in a SoMa skyrise for $3200..
Worst city for straight single males- ratio is terrible- Man Francisco
A decent studio costs $3-4K? What are you talking about?! That is not true. You can get a studio for under $3K. There's one in my friends building going for $2500 right now that is really nice actually.
I live in a big 1bdr apartment in nobhill and I pay only 2400 a month, and i do not know where all these people that say that the ratio sucks for straight guys hang out, but I COMPLETELY disagree ;). I have friends that live pretty decently inside the city (not in east bay) and they make 75k. So yea, 97 is great if you are single as long as you do not do cocaine or other drugs of course.
@glenncoco, check out the article on the firefighters commuting 100+ miles to SF...

My friend is staying in a decent two bedroom for 1100 per person over at alameda. It's about a 35 minute commute to SF and I don't think it's that bad.
97 is more than doable. Stay away from high rise complexes if you want to save some money. I make 110, live downtown in a studio by myself in a "luxury high rise" make a mortgage payment on a home elsewhere (1300/month), put 10% in the 401k/Roth (not great but better than nothing) and still have plenty of room to do what I want and not worry about $. Granted I'm not taking weekly trips to Vegas or anything but it's not hard to live comfortably.
My entire start class lives in nice and safe areas in the city (pac heights, near the office, marina, etc). If you want 1 bedroom to yourself in a 2 BR without anyone in a living room, you'll pay $2500. Studios will be $3500 though.
Every month I spend $1900 on rent (have someone in my living room), $1000 on other expenditures (on a travel project though), and $1000+ on savings on an entry level salary. You can prob make due with $97k
