At-will employment (which just about ever state is), means the employer or the employee can terminate the employment at any time with or without notice and with or without a reason. That said, most employees give notice and most employees provide a PIP and a reason. If he feels it is wrongful termination (I.e. discrimination), then it would be wise to seek legal counsel.
