Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase

If fp&a is your end goal, take this offer and don't look back. There's no guarantee you'd get a senior role in the future, whereas this offer gets your foot in the door
That’s smart, and learn everything on the job
I'd take it. FP&A experience with a B4 background will be more marketable than a B4 senior, when it comes time to look for a senior analyst role.
2 years at PwC is senior at any other firm. No need to feel high and mighty, senior associate.
Take it! I made the same jump a year ago with 1.5 years of experience at PwC and have no regrets (similar pay increase too). A lot of my coworkers on the finance team made the jump after making senior at a big 4 and they started at the same position I did… I think generally to become a senior FP&A you need to get some FP&A experience first.
I joined as a FP&A II and the next step up is a FP&A III, then finally a Senior FP&A. So I still have a lot of room to grow! I’ve been at the company for a year now and expect to be promoted in the next six months or so, then my plan is to stay until Senior FP&A and evaluate from there, maybe make a jump to a new company then.
