Deloitte is the bigger name and pays a bit better but Grant Thronton has way nicer people and known to have a way better cultre and work environment. What should I do? Anything>audit

Between those 2, audit for exit ops alone

Tax will sort of pigeon hole you but if you actually enjoy it then why not. Specialized tax knowledge with provisions and partnership can be well paying.
Audit is generic where you can leverage it to something else whether controller fund accountant or financial reporting etc. but audit work itself is mind numbingly boring.
Audit > tax.

Let’s be honest, no one wakes up and is excited about being an accountant. That being said, I do enjoy audit because I like always being around people (working in groups) and I feel that environment attracts people with a little bit more personality. The work is going to be difficult either way during busy season, but I’ve heard that tax has harder seasons than audit does. I do agree, exit opportunities for high paying roles are likely better under the audit track. But I think you have some good opportunities to open your own mini tax firm if you take that route in the long run. Lastly it might be silly but also true; with audit you bounce around between office and client whereas for tax, you’d be working exclusively at the office (assuming you’re not in a remote position). I didn’t want to be married to a desk so I picked audit and I’m happy I did.
Audit for a wider range of exit opportunities. Tax tends to pigeon hole folks.
Yea, fairy true. You can exit well to tax roles, but can be more effort to move into other roles.
If you plan to stay in public tax is more interesting in my opinion. And the work can be spread out better if you can manage it correctly. But sometimes you are at the mercy of you clients responsiveness.
Audit is better if your ultimate goal is to go into industry. I started my PA career doing tax for the first 2 years and saw it was not going to translate to anything besides being in PA for life. Did Audit after that for 17 years. The only thing to be careful in audit is to make sure you don't get pigeon holed into Government and NPO audits. Doing those audits every now and then is fine, but I saw people get stuck being the 'NPO' or 'Government' guy. Those skills will not really translate to private industry. Good Luck!

It depends on people. I like to do tax, but also see lot of people who made a switch to audit from tax, they enjoy it.

Audit is better, but it also means you’re working in audit. I just had no interest in that.
