I don’t think its tacky at all. If the items are of good quality and your intent is thoughtful then that is all that matters. If you were part of a big corp and handing out company stamped stuff that would be tacky. But here you are talking about things you actually sell to paying customers and then thoughtfully picking some out for your friends and family. Imo that’s not tacky at all. Also nothing wrong in promoting a good business. Again, if that’s not your intent here you’re fine. You can just gift them with your honest intent, whatever that is, and that should come through. Overthinking aside..
If you know your niece would love it, give it to her (not gift, ffs). Proudly say it is from your store and she is the first to have one.
If her mom balks, that's her bs, not yours. Stop caring so much about what others think. You are doing something nice for your niece. It's not like you're giving her a gift card to your store. It is jewelry, and you've been thoughtful of what she likes in giving it.
I don’t care where gifts come from as long as
a) the giver had good intentions
b) I find it useful or love it
It depends a little bit on how close you are to your family, but I think as long as it isn't an item that's branded all over or cheaply made you should be fine. My aunt made candles and sold them when I was a kid and we always got at least one in our stocking. If you can, maybe ask the sibling who's married to your sister in law if it would be ok, or give you a ballpark of what she wants.
