Bain & Company Bain & Company Do you have any insights into what they are expecting in the second (last) round? I saw that there are two cases and a presentation. Are they more interested in professionalism than the "analytical" skills assessed in the first round? Do you have any more insights into the presentation?
Many thanks in advance

Unless you are going to a top 10 business school I generally thinks MBAs are a waste of money. I’m C-suite without MBA.

It’s the funniest joke in their own mind.

I did it. Learned a lot. But particularly these days I don’t know what the secret sauce is for getting ahead in this declining business, particularly over the long term. If there is a long term. Seems like these days, amazing talent of all stripes are just hanging on.
I do think it helps anyone (everyone?) become better versed in their client’s business. And, at the end of the day, that allows one to position themselves as a revenue generator — perhaps some protection from the never ending cycle of layoffs.
These responses just tell me I’m on FB way too much
I feel like “get an MBA” is the new “learn to code”, now that knowing how to code is not a guaranteed job.
I couldn’t tell you where anybody on my team went to school. It’s all about the book.
Only if you like debt! What do you feel an MBA will do for you? (Honest question)
From what I’ve seen MBAs don’t add much value agency side, but they are a great way to move client side.
MBAs are lame

Seriously though, if you’re genuinely considering whether or not to get an MBA and are looking for the most reductive, mind numbing and unhelpful discourse on the subject, the Advertising bowl on Fishbowl is here to help. Here, nobody knows anything but will readily offer you all manner of shoot-from-the-hip hot takes, poured over with a fine coating of bitter cynicism. It’s a place where all notions of genuine curiosity, or the pursuit of improvement outside of a very narrow set of “cool” criteria, are frowned upon by default. Check it out!

And thanks to you for keeping this thread on brand!
Why are you considering it? Did mine — affordable EMBA program — and loved it, but don’t think it’s 💯 necessary in advertising.
As a creative, I’m curious why you are even considering it. Are you trying to change careers? Or take a more business leadership position?
I’ve always felt like MBAs aren’t all that useful in advertising. But if your goal is to eventually run a business, they can be a pricey but sometimes valuable way to learn the fundamentals and build a network that helps you get things off the ground. I don’t know him personally, but I remember hearing that George Dewey took night classes to get his MBA from NYU (a solid school, though not top tier) while he was still an ECD at McCann. Sounds like he got a lot out of it. He eventually partnered with Ryan Reynolds and launched their venture together. So I guess it really depends on the person and what you’re hoping to get out of it.
Better take a reputable AI course

I don’t think that a generalist knowledge worker-type degree is the most sound investment in the age of AI. Specialization is where it’s at. Specialization in a trade with some sort of manual component, even better.
If you’re staying in advertising, no.
No.
MBA way on one side of the Account - Creative spectrum. You’re title suggests you’re on the other
I don’t have an MBA, but I am confident I could teach an MBA course. Feels worthless if it’s not done right away.

There’s an entire tier of MBA study, the EMBA, that’s tailored to experienced professionals.
MBA can add an immediate network and time to find your lane. But you can do that other ways as well.
As a creative? Only if you’re trying to pivot to another lane. And then only MAYBE.
