Fuck utilization
We have it in advisory
Please my utilization is 30% lmao but we heading into busy season so it'll go up. Just no work to do 🙄
It's funny how we're judged on utilization even though it's a metric we don't control
Haha yea thanks ya'll. I'm just curious since in tax everyone makes it seem like utilization is a life and death matter lol
I got bumped down from a 4 rating to 3 for low utilization. But like Audit Senior 1 said, if they want to give you the short end of the stick they can always just use utilization as an excuse.
Lol my utilization is in the 20s% somewhere going into busy season. It's completely out of my control so IDGAF.
^ same boat bro? What group you in ?
We have it in audit
They've used low utilitization to let some ppl go. Not sure how much a high utilization rate would help though.
@CH1 that sucks. Utilization is used for promotions and bonuses for us. My 105% utilization was on the low end last year.
Lol that means I might get booted/no bonus/ no promotion 😂 im exceeding every goal so far oh well
@CH1 thats awful. Our utilization is based over 40 hours regardless of total hours. 40 hours chargeable + 10 hours other is still 100% util.
Tax
Department? DSG
Is it also one of the main metrics relevant to your performance/promotion?
Our utilization is annoying, it's out of all the hours we work in a week. So if you're chargeable 40 and only write 40, great, 100%. But If you work 40 and log 45 because 5 hours are travel, your utilization is 88%.
I'd say utilization matters quite a bit in end of year performance discussions for associates, and less as you move up the chain. Basically just due to the fact that there are fewer differentiators at the associate level, esp as a new associate
The grease that makes public accounting turn
That's interesting I think ours mimics CH
