Is working for one Big 4 basically the same as working at any of the other Big 4s? Scheduling, WLB, culture, comp, it's basically the same across the Big 4, right? I'm assuming jumping among them wouldn't be that much of a shock.

Do you like yellow, orange, blue or green?

funny

Pretty much. There will be differences in groups and offices but in general they are the same

like

Yes although if you want to be there for partner track there are differences (some firms have snr mgrs, some have MD reqd before partner, etc)

like

100% depends on your specialty/LOS and team culture.

But generally, it’ll be the same bag. You’re as likely to have as good or bad of an experience at any, just depends on luck.

Personally, I did notice some big discrepancies in pay when getting experienced hire offers. And I’ve looked at enough compensation threads to think that a couple of the firms do have higher base pay and bonuses.

like

I think so, I've worked at PwC and KPMG and I didn't see a big difference.

One slice of the same pie. I made the mistake of thinking Top 10 would be similar to Big 4. That was like the Wild West. Now I’m in the boomerang club.

Gift giving help: every year around this time my husband brings up his Jan bday and basically demands I spend a lot of $ on him. I find this stressful. I don’t do big lavish gifts but each year I feel pressure to or he won’t be happy. When I say this he immediately launches into “haven’t I done this for you, bought that for you”. “If you loved me you would”. His entitlement and manipulation make me feel super resentful and removes the fun of celebrating him. FWIW we earn the same. What to do?

I joined EY in January. Had no work all of January, but was busy for February and some of March. I have been unassigned for about 4 weeks now, sending availability emails to all of the service lines we are allowed to reach out to for work. I should not have come here 🤦🏼‍♂️ I know it’s nice to have some down-time, but when every day is staring at a computer, the days are SO long.

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
