Is your employer keeping their promise to D&I or was it just talk?

Keeping it "so far"

like

All talk, whiter than ever, no diversity whatsoever in the c suite, but celebrating the fact that there’s gender equity

like

I'm in the same kind of place. That said, there are conversations about doing more and doing better, I've just not seen much. We have a more visibly diverse leadership team on the Director-level than most in our industry, but all of the c-suites are white. We have an incredibly queer team, but most aren't out except to the rest of us queer folk, because we need psychological safety first. So there are conversations happening at the top, but the real action is coming from the bottom.

I've been pleasantly surprised to see that it has been genuine, not just talk but action too. I'm hopeful for the future of our companies, at least those that are genuinely prioritizing people.

I find that tech companies have a harder time keeping DEI promises. That is, if they ever made a promise in the first place.

My former employer who I get updates on from current friends who I used to work with created an entire DE&I team in summer 2020. The entire team was let go recently and were told that they had actually been term of project employees (they weren’t told this before) and that they had completed the project. They did the DE&I and the company was perfect because of it so they didn’t need them anymore. They then sent out a company wide self congratulatory “we did it!” email. Unreal.

There is no such thing as one & done. I hope they learn their company is better for everyone when they have robust DEI 🙏

All talk, they even got rid of the Chief Diversity Officer. 🤦‍♂️😂

McCann CCO said DEI training was “fucking boring” on a training call in the chat, deleted it and then faced no repercussions so does that answer the question?

like

Looks like he just got demoted

Just all talk! New company's DE&I initiative is a cheap imitation of my old company!

like

All talk and as racist as ever with leadership telling race jokes and using slurs in daily conversation.

like

Thank you so much!!

smart

They have a very very long way to go and with a preference to only hire managers in Utah, the likelihood of major improvements in that space is slim.

like

Mostly talk

like

Making strides - definitely not perfect but I can tell that leadership is trying, even if the results aren’t there yet.

like

Definitely holding up on anything that doesn’t have to do with race!

Hello everyone,

I wanted to know how long does Course5i take to release an offer, I cleared all rounds last friday and was going to get an offer from HR early this week (by Monday evening or Tuesday) but didn’t get any offer till now.

I loved the role and I am still excited to join the organisation so mailed a follow up to the HR yesterday but did not get any response till now. I do not want to follow up for the next 1-2 days since I feel it would be too pushy from my end.

How tough is it to make the jump from SMB SAAS to Mid-market type roles? I’ve been annihilating my quota in my current role for the past 18 months, but on pretty small deal sizes. Our team is about to recruit and we are trying to live our DEI values. Any tangible actions you can suggest to how we can widen our attractiveness to a more diverse candidates? Applies internally and externally. Thanks for any suggestions.

My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Within it, people are starting to kind of form their own subgroups (like based on office location or country-specific ethnicity). Does anyone have any thoughts around what would be appropriate for DEI practitioners to be aware of when serving these populations?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

How do you deal with your “mentor” being threatened by your performance and gatekeeping information from you? Then turning around and giving you shit for not knowing things… but they don’t tell you anything and there is no way for you to know. My learning and development is being hindered and I’ve felt this for a long time, but coworker just confirmed this is the case. Now that I know I’m not “crazy” for thinking this, how should I approach this?

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

Does anyone have any resources to help me prepare for this? Anything is greatly appreciated!

I am frustrated as a Gay Woman who has given her all for 30+ years grinding to be the best. I have been in closet, out of closet, in-between and am tired of it. I want to be VALUED as a human being. I have gone from Rock Star to problem when people "found out". I have trained and promoted hundreds of people and been passed over for promotions because of not being a man. I have trained men with less experience, worse results only for them to move forward. If Diversity is important...prove it!

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.
