Do you have other work experience or activities on your resume that showcase you’re a hard worker? What have you been doing since you graduated? A student with 150 credit hours who’s sitting for the CPA isn’t that difficult to find, especially since firms recruit at universities where they can go ahead and start to narrow down candidates.
I moved to a different state and worked at a position irrelevant to tax (internal audit)
I don’t know how you are applying currently, but I recommend applying for the senior associate roles posted. You aren’t qualified for them, but it may get you through to the recruiter who will let the practice office know that they found an experienced associate candidate in their search for a senior. While most new hires come through campus hiring and interns, I have found that the demand is greater for new hires than the number of qualified graduates.
I’ve tried applying to experienced associate, but they told me in a feedback that I haven’t done any business tax and was underqualified for this position, but encouraged me to apply to entry level shall there be one.
If you haven't gotten an interview, there might be something off in your resume or CV. If you have gotten interviews and just can land an offer, most likely your personality. Similar situation with one of our new staff. Had all 4 parts completed but couldn't get a job offer under a cpa. Our firm was one of his 2 interviews before he was gonna give up. Turns out he's a weirdo and his personality does not mix well with the office at all.
That’s bs

It’s incredibly hard to get a job without campus recruiting or experience. I don’t have much insight but I wish you luck! Sorry last year was a tough year to graduate :/
Hey! Do you want me to refer you to bdo? Sometimes referrals have preference over those that are not
Just DM me your desired bdo office and industry. Ill check in our site if there's any openings.
Maybe not enough time has passed since you've applied or the job postings you applied to have already been filled. It helps tremendously when you get a referral. Maybe see if someone can refer you, those applications usually go to the top of the pile.
Yeah, for some jobs I can see that the reason why I cannot apply is due cool down. I wish I could get a referral, but most of my friends haven’t started working at B4/midsize yet, since they just finished their internship.
Also get someone in industry to review your resume. Hell I’m bored. Send me your resume and I’ll review it.
Have you tried using a cover letter?
I’ve tried a few times, but not for all positions.
Any screening calls?
No..
Make sure your resume is machine readable.
I wish I can post it here, but I’m sure for the most part it’s fine due to numerous revisions.
Also applying for jobs is a bad idea in public. They get a mountain of those applications. Get that referral from a friend who got an offer, and that will help. I interviewed at Moss Adams (top ten ish and landed with them for a bit) without an application. Aka work smarter not harder!
What are you involved with from a diversity perspective?
I would echo comments about getting referrals public and private roles
Also, I would say by November seriously consider getting your Masters of science degree in something useful or that interests you
Contact classmates and see if anyone will refer you into a firm.
I got one referral but never heard from the firm. And most of my friends haven’t started with B4/midsize yet, but said they’ll be happy to help after onboarding.
I got the same issue but my GPA is 3.9 and graduated in 2016 and already passed all CPA exams. Where are you located?
Hey, I saw your post recently! I hope it works out for you, mate. I’m temporarily at Midwest, but thinking about going back to NYC next month.
Good luck to both of us!
