I’ve been looking forward to having a long holiday after an entire year of being busy with responsibilities. Recently, I almost forced myself to take leave just to clear my remaining days off. Instead of feeling relaxed, I felt unexpectedly empty. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I had imagined this break would feel rewarding, but now the silence feels strange and uncomfortable. Has anyone else experienced this kind of emptiness when a long-awaited break finally arrives?

I typically make plans during my time off, whether it’s travel or playing a couple rounds of golf… make a habit of planning ahead… don’t overwhelm yourself though, you still need time to relax and reset…

I'm always busy, just because it's not a working day doesn't mean my schedule is empty so I also run into the same issue of not being able to relax. I agree with the comment of planning something (even if its just one thing) for the vacation. I also agree in you don't have to plan the entire trip, plan one thing and go from there. Maybe you see a restaurant on the way to the planned event and think about going there for dinner? There's a plan but also room for spontaneity.

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

I need help. I'm dealing with multiple losses in the same week and having a hard time... I took some time off from work but I have no motivation to do anything. I don't want to go back to work and don't care about my work right now. I want to quit but I don't want to make a rash decision but need a long break. It's also not fair to my team that I can't give it my 100%. What can I do?

When is it either allowed or seen as OK to start using FTO? I recently started here and while I’m not looking to slack off and take time off, I just want to know how it works. (Plus, I don’t want to not use something that I can or should use.) Elementary stuff, I know. But I’ve freelanced my whole career until now. Thanks

I'm graduating in a few weeks, is to weird to send a holiday gift like wine or a Christmas Card along with my resume? I haven't been hearing back from the companies i have been applying to and I'm looking to stand out.

Just had a very uncomfortable conversation with a partner. I have some time off booked to go to my brother’s wedding (I’m the best man). We were chatting and I mentioned that my brother’s future husband is so nice and really a great guy, and we already consider him a member of our family. Partner’s tone immediately shifts and as we’re ending the call he says, “Okay, enjoy the time with your family at the civil ceremony.” Like… girl you live in California, you cannot be this backward.
