The chart is combining data from multiple columns into single pieces of data. I'll try out your ideas and let you know!
Oops! I didn't see "charts" when I commented. It may be within the chart parameters.
Sounds like you have merged cells
You would think, but they aren't. Each time has been brand new randomly generated data to practice with. And it's been in more than one file. One time I was able to break the combo by editing a field within select data, but it's not particularly convenient.
Is it grouping columns or combining the data in separate columns into one column?
Select all of the spreadsheet.
If the Merge & Center button is highlighted, click it.
If that doesn't fix your problem:
If it's grouping:
Select all of the spreadsheet, go to the data tab, click ungroup.
If that doesn't fix your problem and it has combined data from separate columns into one column, insert the # of columns that should be there after the column with all of the data in it. Then select the entire column with all of the data in it. Go to the Data tab, click Text to Columns. Pick one of the options, delimited there is not a straight cut line down the data where you want to split the data.
Alternatively, you may be able to fill in the columns you added on the first 3 rows with the data each cell should have, and then click in the 4th row in the first empty cell and hit Ctrl + e to fill down. If Excel can pick up on the pattern, it will fill the rest in for you.
Click delimited if** there is not a clear cut line
Here is what's happening. This is randomly generated data, so it's meaningless. I can go into edit series and reduce it down to only the city column, but if I switch the rows and columns, it lumps everything I've excluded in with the gender column in the same way.
