I'm joining EY next month for tech stack ODI, PL SQL. how flexible is it to change a skill set or project after 18 months in EY? I want to eventually move to the data engineering side. ODI (Oracle data integrator) is a niche tool which will go extinct in future and I want to move other technology hopefully in EY.Deloitte Accenture Tata Consultancy

Won't close doors experience in either can be transferred. I would go with the gut instincts.
Thank you for your reply! So do you think that it’s still possible to join the sell-side after being in the buy-side if it’s not in a leading fund please?
Would go with IB first then transfer to PE.
Sellside experience is directly transferable to buyside. Buyside isn’t as transferable to sellside.
PE analyst roles are risky. You’ll probably build a better skillset if you spend a few years in IB first
You’ll be limited to the opportunities/strategy of that fund. Depending on the type of bank you join and the sector, you should be able to gain more exposure to a wider variety of clients and businesses.
In IB, you’ll see businesses in their raw form before they’ve been window dressed by a sellside advisor, unlike PE.
Also as someone else said, keep your options as wide as possible from the get go, then once you figure out what you like and don’t, narrow your focus. You can’t do this as effectively if you go PE straight out of school.
I’m graduated with masters in Management Economics but I don’t have good grades and no relative experience, and Honestly I’m trying really hard to get into IB.
Would it be difficult for me get into IB with this profile, Because after sending tons of applications I’ve not received one solid response .
Any Advice and opinion would be welcome and thank you in advance!
Highly dependent on the group you join in IB and whether that interests you
