New Cheerios work is 🔥
Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/
This shouldn’t be news to people but it is.

Huge 1 is right. Basically, what they offered is what you are going to get. You are very fortunate to have a real gig lined up coming out of school. Way to go! Make the most of the opportunity .
Well what did they offer you? You’re not going to have much room for negotiation. Benefits should be standard assuming it’s not a start up. The only negotiating room is usually vacation time but that’s also likely limited at entry level. Expect 10 days of vacation, maybe 15 if it’s a good shop. Between $40-50k salary. Find out about medical, dental, vision, 401k matching and vesting schedule. Usually it’s up to 6% after a certain # of years with the company. Oh and plan to have a few roommates. :) Congrats!
Just finished my first year as a junior level. What they offered me coming in I took without question and busted my butt for a year. When it came time for a year review I was able to negotiate a pretty good raise. This isn’t going to happen every time, but if you prove your worth in the first year they will likely be open to hearing negotiations of salary.
Ask for relocation!
Congrats for sure, thats what all this has been about so I hope you're pleased. But yeah its true you dont have a lot of leverage, and you wont for a while. I guess like a lot of NYers youll have a microscopic place in Queens with eleven roommates. But still, whatever it is, you beat out a lot of people--so be happy with yourself 😃
Congratulations 🎈! And no matter what you get, open a 401k as soon as you’re allowed. Even if it’s only 25 bucks a paycheck. Believe me, you’ll thank me someday. Love, a New York City mom
When I started out I negotiated 54k after they offered me 40k at my first gig. Probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. It worked...but my god I wouldn’t recommend doing it. If they said no I’d be screwed. Take the offer
But do the math. Take your salary and subtract 30% for taxes and SS Then subtract a year’s rent. What’s left? Can you handle that? Expect to pay a couple hundred a month for health and dental insurance and another $120 / month for a metro card. If that number doesn’t work, you’ll have to negotiate.
