Just received an offer from PwC for their Tech Consulting, Cloud Group in Advisory. I originally applied for a Senior Role. They are offering me to come in as an Associate but offered to pay me as a Senior Associate. Anyone know why they do that? Will this impact my career growth? YOE is 2.5 from direct competitor. T1 City, Offer 115k base. How is the offer? Can I negotiate for more?

PwC unlike the other three B4 is on a cohort model so your future raises will not be that high, atleast for the next few years. Offer itself I think is fairly solid, 115k would be a good offer for SA1 too.
Okay. That 1% is better than 0% at least 😢
Didn’t know we did this at all lol but that’s pretty sweet. Idk what the pay scale would be beyond this role. I’m an SA2 and not making that much. Externally, you’re still just an Associate so it will look like a lateral move.
I don’t know where I am placed. I have just been told that I will be coming in as an associate

Seems like a good offer IMO. Never seen an associate paid that high. Interesting they didn’t give you senior title though.
May just be team composition — if they have open recs for associate, and already filled the senior position, it could be simpler. On my team we actually tried to “lean hire” someone as an associate, but the original rec was for senior associate so HR pushed to stick with the senior level.
Just be aware that your salary growth will be limited until you get promoted. PwC salaries are pretty tightly bound to level, so there is a theoretical cap on how much you can move up within your level. If you’re good enough to warrant the senior associate salary though, you’ll be up for promo in no time.
Probably to immediately staff you on an engagement that is in ruins as far as margins are concerned.

Whether you came in as a senior or not they would staff you on an engagement in ruins lol
If you play your cards well, you’ll be considered for promotion as early as possible. Like everyone else pointed out its a good TC
Appreciate the input. Initially, I was against it because of title. But thinking about it, I’m very young in my career... slightly leaning towards joining
Tech Consulting especially is short on associates and seniors (aka their workforce). By having you as an associate they can plug you into more projects and save on their margins since you’ll be cheaper than a SA. They will then get to keep you as an SA longer as well before you (assumingely) make it to manager.
I’ve seen them take this course a few times. I would accept and be happy to do some of the dirty work for an extra year or so. Congrats!
Oh, thank you for the explanation! It makes a lot of sense in that lens. Glad to think that it wasn’t something related to me being not good enough for SA.
It is interesting you’re so high. I wonder what that means for your raise because I am a senior and I am making much less in MC tier 2.
I just checked the sheet and the highest based on the adjustment in January for an A3 non MBA Tier 1 is 91k. So....
They always like to bring people in a lower level, seems a standard practice
I thought so, but why pay for the level above? That’s what is so interesting to me
OP, ask your recruiter what cohort you’re coming in to. I don’t think you can negotiate base but I’d find out the cohort and try to get A3, so you can try to get promo to SA next cycle.
Also, I’d ask them what your raise will look like given that you’re coming in much higher than all associates. DM me if anything. Congrats on the offer!
Thank you very much! Will DM you.
For better exit strategy, I don’t recommend taking a step down title at the same level firm . If step down were for MBB, I would have totally understood.
