Also, what’s the compensation like in Austin specifically? I would think the compensation would be different than Cupertino. Anyone have any offers or salaries for these positions in Austin?

Yeah, I used to work at Microsoft on the Consultinh side. AE’s are the main POC for the account relationships (like Client Partners) and have certain sales targets. Microsoft doesn’t play with sales targets so you have to be good at relationship management and hitting quota or you’re out quickly. Agree on great salary but dependent on sales achievement .
M1 - Why did you move?
I was at Microsoft for 5+ years, and I have nothing but positive things to say about working there. Satya really helped turn the culture around, he’s a bold and decisive leader. I was working within the Consulting arm and was at a pivotal juncture in my career - to move up at Microsoft two things needed to happen:
1a. Align to a product (Microsoft is a product company). That means, become a marketing manager/PMM/PM/Dev/Speaker/Evangelist/Strategist/Partner Manager for a product and specialize. That’s the business.
1b. Move into sales or account management.
2. Do your time in Redmond. This is must. All leadership is in Redmond and the most interesting roles are too.
I love Microsoft but I hate pushing for one product and I don’t have any passion for products. I care about people, culture, strategy. It was a great place to learn and start but not the place I could be to develop the skills I want for my own career. I also traveled the world with Microsoft and got to live in 4 different cities, work in Europe, but I wanted to be home. I couldn’t imagine moving to Redmond. Microsoft was like university, it was a wonderful couple of years but after my last year, I was ready to take on a new adventure.
Whats the salary range for this role at mcsft?
Just curious, at what level are you not allowed to move from Consulting for client to working for client? Currently Consulting for Microsoft and find this interesting.
Not sure, I don’t think Microsoft has strict rules in place for this but I’d check the MSA (master services agreement) they have with the client. There is likely something on there about moving to the client.
Oh, sales and account management was not for me. That’s my weak spot, engineering background and really direct works for execution but not for sales.
