Best bars to hit downtown for a bday?
Hi Londoners ,
Moving in from outside UK.
Looking out for some areas in west / NW London where one can live with an infant on max 1400£ rental while requiring one partner to travel to Central occasionally for work and the other person 3 days a week to LHR.
Some Qns:
1) Will 1 Bedroom be too cramped for the infant to grow up? Should I raise budget?
2) I prefer being in family /childcare friendly areas. Had Harrow, Acton in mind . Are they good for my budget or any other suggestions?
TIA Deloitte @

Amen. It's the best feeling ever. I will never go back to public accounting. My stress levels have been reduced tremendously as well.
Congratulations! I left PA June 2022 for a less lucrative position in Commercial RE but no job stress, no overtime, true WLB.

Amen. Great for you. Let those who love public accounting stay there. I left public accounting years ago never to return. My stress levels have been reduced by 1,000 %. No kidding.
Take me with you
And me!
My wife left public audit over 2 years ago... 13+ years in. She now works less than 45 hours, makes more than she ever did then, and has a life again. Not to mention her bonus was 3x her biggest bonus then. Deloitte took great care of her and our family with benefits and such, but the mental wear and tear, ridiculous lack of staffing, and high stress wasn't what I'd call a good work life balance.
I will admit that she does have times she misses the go go go... But overall, I think she's very happy out of the never ending hampster wheel.

Congrats to her. Life is much more fun versus the go go go of public accounting.
Where did you go?? Living the dream!

No. Must be an exodus from public accounting!
People in this bowl love to dunk on TaxSenior1 but in many respects, he is right. Let’s look at the numbers. Only 2% of CPAs make it to Partner according to the AICPA and we all know there are plenty of non-CPAs in public accounting. Moreover, 75% of CPAs are retirement age according to the AICPA which means the pool of talent is thinning. To compound this problem, the amount of people sitting for the CPA has precipitously declined from 102K in 2016 to 67K in 2022. If that isn’t glaring enough, 300K accountants and auditors left their jobs between 2019 and 2021 which was almost 20% of the accounting workforce. This all shows that the industry need to change. The 🥕 of making Partner is ridiculous considering the commitment involved and how few CPAs actually make it. It is even more absurd when you consider how everyone below them has zero equity. Moreover, it an objective fact that starting pay in public accounting has not kept pace with inflation or the cost of living. There needs to be a fundamental restructuring of the business model to incentivize the next generation and it starts with offering higher compensation and incentives to match the competition i.e. tech, finance, etc.

They treat folks as disposable and when they can't find enough people , they resort to those $10 per hour Indian tax processors especially the Big 4 firms. Sadly, those jobs are not coming back to the US. Outsourcing more to Indian tax processors results in tremendous cost savings which means more money in partners already deep pockets .

Update: Still the greatest feeling ever. Would not return to any big 4 for any amount of money in the world. Thankfully my personal business took off 😇
Thanks for the update.
I need advice I am accountant from Egypt now I am studying ACCA I need get sponsored for training most of companies does not offer sponsorship visa for training any one has advise what can I do to
I'm FCCA in USA. Freely speaking, hardly any US companies care about ACCA. You will experience higher success gaining work entry to UK to work for a couple of years (and may god be with you there). Then, from the UK you will be able to work on secondment or re-assignment in the US based on a name-brand employer, but not ACCA. Good luck to you.
From what I've heard, the grass is not greener on the other side, but maybe that's just for those that leave a mid-size firm.

Grass is greener because I don’t have a lawn to take care of anymore, so to speak
If I can have a lifestyle of 300k-500k income a year, I’d say, good, I’ll do it. But if not, nah. Boring and average. Especially when all my friends are working, who’s gonna hang out with me during the day?
