I'm a current CaseSmart attorney. The roles and expectations vary by group (charges, lit, class action), but there is 0 expectation to go even an hour over 1,500. Definitely possible to take vacation. The biggest difference between this and a reduced hours associate/counsel position is that there's really no expectation to work nights/weekends/put out last-minute fires, or any business development. That's the deal we've all made for the pay cut, and so we get support from our LCS management to push back with trial teams when they're pushing us beyond our scope. Happy to answer any questions.
Thanks for your post! Could you elaborate how the rolls and expectations differ based on the specific type of CaseSmart attorney?
Yes my experience working w casesmart attorneys is that they firmly work their 1500 and are frequently OOO.
One addition: I'm applying to join one of the five Charges teams. Thanks for any insight!
Im at littler, not casesmart but I work with the LCS litigation teams. You are definitely not expected to work beyond the billable hour requirement. 2 vacations a year are also doable. All the attorneys I work with take about 4 weeks a year. Also no one really works Christmas to New Years.
I agree - I am a mid level associate, have been at littler about 6 months, everyone takes vacations! And puts their OOO as: I’m on a week vacation with my family. They gave us this past Friday off as a mental health day to make it a long weekend. Littler also does reduced hours schedules too- so, for my two cents, I’d try to go in as a regular associate and if you feel like it’s still too demanding then explore other options like casesmart or reduced hours.
What is the salary for a casesmart attorneh there ?
Yep.
