Alternative opinion as someone who made M in 4.5 years homegrown… it’s a lowball offer, don’t take it unless they’re paying you $180K+ as an SC base. It’s near impossible to get accelerated promo to M as an exp hire. It’s also hugely dependent on luck. We’re bleeding Ms and if you’re a M elsewhere you’ll figure it out. I wouldn’t take it if they don’t give you M
I’m also happy to connect if you want to chat through the offer more, just shoot me a DM
I’d suggest to come in as SC. 6.5 years is honestly not enough experience. You will also need time to learn Deloitte way of doing things, build your network etc. coming in as a M would be a risky move
Alternatively, I already have 1 year of experience as an M and I would be locked into the SC role for a minimum of 1.5 years because of timing. I fully understand where you’re coming from but it also seems very risky to take SC and be stuck there 2+ years even with strong performance.

If the money is where you expect it to be then it would be a great opportunity to learn Deloitte before you become a manager. If the money isn’t there then don’t do it.
If I was to negotiate for M do you think that would be the best option or would that be risky like others are saying?
D likes leveling people down. My SC started as a C there. Don’t do it if you don’t wish to. And push back. Other Big4 firms probably will take you as an M.
Not uncommon in consulting to take a step down in role when shifting. From what I’ve seen you’ll typically get promoted relatively quick; it’s just for the firm to size you up before giving you the responsibility/autonomy of a manager.
That said only make the move if you are comfortable with that.
Yeah most of our M’s have at least 7YOE when homegrown through Deloitte, and as someone else mentioned Deloitte brings experienced hires in at a level down. SC sounds right.
I came in as a C with 4.5 years experience, total waste of time and left within 1 year, I think SC is fair, just crush it and go for promo early on
Plan is to push back and ask for M. Likely not going to happen but if they agree I’ll take that as a sign my interviewers were on the fence and believe I’d be ok as an M. If not, I’ll push for upper SC range and signing bonus.
